General Description:
Malawi Children's Village(MCV) is the local NGO(Non-governmental organization) owned and operated by Malawians and overseen by a Malawi based Board of Directors. This is a home based HIV AIDS orphans program serving 2500 orphans in the 37 surrounding villages. The Mangochi district is one of the poorest areas in Malawi and hardest hit by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. MCV has two Malawian volunteers in each villages checking on the welfare of the orphans in their village. The MCV staff meets with the area chiefs several times a year, most recently in Feb 08. Field staff from MCV are in the villages every day.

Project:
The current water supply system pumps water out of the nearby lake into a water tower. The water is not suitable for drinking and must be boiled before use. The community would like to improve the water quality and add two villages with 400 users each that are 1000 meters away to the system.

The Southcentral Alaska (SCA) Professional Chapter and the Malawi Childrens Villageare working together to address this issue.
